Description
A spooky and delicious recipe for Black Poison Swirl Candy Apples, perfect for Halloween festivities.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium-sized red apples
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- ½ cup water
- 1 teaspoon black food coloring
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup black candy melts or chocolate
- Edible glitter or sprinkles (optional)
- Wooden sticks or skewers
Instructions
- Begin by thoroughly washing and drying the apples. Insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple, making sure it’s secure. Place a baking sheet lined with parchment paper nearby for cooling.
- In a medium saucepan, combine granulated sugar, light corn syrup, and water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat while stirring until the sugar dissolves. Stop stirring and allow the mixture to cook until it reaches the hard crack stage, about 300°F (150°C) on a candy thermometer.
- Once the temperature is reached, remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the black food coloring and vanilla extract; be cautious as the mixture may bubble.
- Quickly dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, swirling to coat evenly. Lift the apple out and let excess candy drip off before placing it onto the prepared baking sheet.
- While the candy coating sets, melt the black candy melts or chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the cooled candy apples for a swirling effect, and sprinkle with edible glitter or sprinkles if desired.
- Allow the apples to cool completely before serving. Enjoy your spooky treats!
Notes
- Make sure to use a candy thermometer for accuracy while cooking the sugar mixture.
- Extra caution is needed when dipping apples to avoid burns from the hot candy mixture.
- These candy apples make a great centerpiece for Halloween parties.
