- 1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling
- 1 box (15.25 ounces) yellow or white cake mix
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a 9×13-inch baking dish, spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the bottom of the dish.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, melted butter, walnuts (if using), vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon (if using). Stir until just combined, but do not overmix; the batter should be crumbly.
- Sprinkle the cake batter evenly over the cherry pie filling in the baking dish. Do not spread it out; just let it fall into clumps.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cherry filling is bubbly around the edges.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
