Description
A rich and creamy mushroom sauce perfect for steak lovers.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups fresh mushrooms (such as cremini or portobello), sliced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or ½ teaspoon dried thyme)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Once the butter has melted, add the sliced mushrooms. Sauté for about 5 minutes or until they begin to soften and turn golden brown.
- Add minced garlic and chopped onion to the skillet. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant.
- Stir in heavy cream, Dijon mustard, and soy sauce. Mix well and let it simmer gently for about 5-7 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.
- Add fresh thyme, salt, and black pepper to taste. Stir well and let it cook on low heat for another 2-3 minutes.
- Finally, remove the skillet from heat and stir in the remaining tablespoon of butter for added richness.
- Serve the creamy mushroom sauce over perfectly cooked steak, drizzling generously on top.
Notes
- For an elevated look, serve the steak topped with a generous ladle of the mushroom sauce, and garnish with fresh parsley.
- Pair with a side of roasted potatoes or steamed asparagus for a complete meal.
- Enjoy!
