- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 6 ripe peaches, peeled, pitted, and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for peaches)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for topping)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup melted butter (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a medium saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter over medium heat. Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the butter turns golden brown and smells nutty. Remove from heat immediately.
- In a large bowl, combine sliced peaches, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Toss to coat.
- Pour the browned butter over the peach mixture and stir gently to combine. Pour the peach mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add milk and 1/4 cup melted butter to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Spoon the batter over the peach mixture in the baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the peaches are bubbly.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
