Description
Hobo foil packets are a quick and tasty dinner option that combines ground beef and vegetables, all cooked together in a convenient foil packet.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 medium potatoes
- 1 medium onion
- 1 cup sliced carrots
- 1 cup corn kernels
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Prepare a large sheet of aluminum foil, roughly 18 inches long, for each packet you plan to make.
- Wash and scrub the potatoes thoroughly, then slice them into thin rounds, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Peel the onion and cut it in half, then slice it into thin half-rings.
- Peel and slice the carrots into small rounds, about 1/4 inch thick.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon or spatula.
- Cook the ground beef until it’s browned and fully cooked, about 8-10 minutes.
- While the beef cooks, prepare the vegetables.
- Place the sliced potatoes, carrots, and onions into a large mixing bowl.
- Add the sliced corn kernels to the bowl with the vegetables.
- Sprinkle the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, and salt over the vegetables.
- Toss the vegetables with your hands or a spoon to coat them evenly with the seasonings.
- Once the beef is cooked, drain any excess grease from the skillet and return it to the heat.
- Add the Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce to the beef in the skillet, stirring to combine.
- Remove the skillet from the heat once the sauces are fully mixed in.
- Lay the prepared sheet of aluminum foil flat on a clean surface.
- Place half of the seasoned vegetables in the center of the foil.
- Top the vegetables with half of the cooked ground beef mixture.
- Place 1 tablespoon of butter on top of the beef mixture.
- Fold the sides of the aluminum foil up to create a packet, then fold the top and bottom edges tightly to seal the packet.
- Repeat the process for the second packet with the remaining ingredients.
- Place both foil packets on a baking sheet and transfer them to the preheated oven.
- Bake the foil packets for 25-30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the flavors have melded together.
- Carefully remove the packets from the oven, being cautious of the hot steam when opening.
- Serve the hobo foil packets immediately, enjoying the warm, flavorful meal straight from the foil.
Notes
- Feel free to customize the vegetables based on your preferences.
- These packets can also be cooked on a grill instead of in the oven.
- Make sure to seal the packets tightly to prevent any steam from escaping.
