A creamy and delicious Italian dish featuring bow tie pasta and Italian sausage.

- 12 oz bow tie pasta (farfalle)
- 1 lb Italian sausage (turkey or chicken sausage works too)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 (14 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ cup heavy cream or half-and-half
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for garnish
- 2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped, for garnish
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Add the bow tie pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the Italian sausage, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and chopped onion. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant and softened.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, red pepper flakes (if using), and Italian seasoning. Simmer the sauce for 5 minutes to let the flavors meld.
- Lower the heat and stir in the heavy cream and grated Parmesan cheese, mixing until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
- Add the cooked sausage back into the skillet and stir to combine.
- Add the drained bow tie pasta to the skillet and toss until the pasta is evenly coated in the sauce.
- Sprinkle the dish with fresh basil and additional Parmesan cheese. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- For a spicier dish, increase the amount of red pepper flakes.
- You can substitute heavy cream with half-and-half for a lighter version.
- Feel free to add vegetables like spinach or bell peppers for added nutrition.
