Description

A creamy and delicious Italian dish featuring bow tie pasta and Italian sausage.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz bow tie pasta (farfalle)
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (turkey or chicken sausage works too)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 (14 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ cup heavy cream or half-and-half
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for garnish
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped, for garnish
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  2. Add the bow tie pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  4. Add the Italian sausage, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and chopped onion. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant and softened.
  6. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, red pepper flakes (if using), and Italian seasoning. Simmer the sauce for 5 minutes to let the flavors meld.
  7. Lower the heat and stir in the heavy cream and grated Parmesan cheese, mixing until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  8. Add the cooked sausage back into the skillet and stir to combine.
  9. Add the drained bow tie pasta to the skillet and toss until the pasta is evenly coated in the sauce.
  10. Sprinkle the dish with fresh basil and additional Parmesan cheese. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a spicier dish, increase the amount of red pepper flakes.
  • You can substitute heavy cream with half-and-half for a lighter version.
  • Feel free to add vegetables like spinach or bell peppers for added nutrition.
