Description
A delicious and spicy twist on the classic fried chicken sandwich, featuring crispy chicken thighs drizzled with a sweet jalapeno honey sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs (or breasts, if preferred)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 cup buttermilk (or whole milk as an alternative)
- 2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
- ¼ cup honey
- 2–3 jalapenos, finely chopped (seeds optional for less heat)
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- Pinch of salt
- 4 sandwich buns, toasted
- Lettuce, shredded
- Tomato slices
- Pickles, optional
- Optional: mayonnaise or aioli
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
- Dredge the chicken thighs in the buttermilk, ensuring they are coated evenly.
- Dip the chicken into the flour mixture, pressing gently to coat all sides.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep fryer over medium-high heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully lower the chicken into the hot oil and fry for 5-7 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the oil and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- In a small saucepan, heat the honey over low heat. Add the chopped jalapenos and cook for 3-5 minutes.
- Stir in the apple cider vinegar and a pinch of salt, and simmer for another 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Lightly toast the sandwich buns until golden brown.
- On the bottom bun, add a layer of lettuce and a slice of tomato. Place the crispy fried chicken on top.
- Generously drizzle the jalapeno honey mixture over the chicken. Add pickles if desired.
- Place the top bun on the sandwich and serve immediately.
Notes
- Using thighs provides a juicier result compared to chicken breasts.
- For a milder sandwich, remove the seeds from the jalapenos.
- For added flavor, consider spreading mayonnaise or aioli on the buns.
