Description
A light and refreshing Key Lime Pie Trifle that combines layers of graham cracker crumbs, tart key lime filling, and whipped cream, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup crushed graham cracker crumbs
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup fresh key lime juice
- 1 teaspoon key lime zest
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Lime slices and additional zest for garnish
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the crushed graham cracker crumbs and melted butter. Mix until the crumbs are evenly coated, then set aside.
- In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, key lime juice, and key lime zest until smooth. Set this mixture aside to thicken slightly.
- In another bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Be careful not to over-whip.
- In a trifle dish or individual serving cups, start by layering some of the graham cracker mixture, followed by a layer of the key lime mixture, and then a layer of the whipped cream. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of whipped cream on top.
- Chill the trifles in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set.
- Before serving, garnish with lime slices and a sprinkle of additional zest for a bright, fresh touch.
Notes
- For best results, use fresh key limes for the juice and zest.
- Make sure not to over-whip the cream to keep it light and fluffy.
- This dessert can be made a day ahead; just keep it covered in the refrigerator until serving.
