Quick Grilled Fish Tacos with Cabbage Slaw are irresistible!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for marinating)
  • Juice of 1 lime (for marinating)
  • 1 garlic clove, finely chopped (for marinating)
  • 1 tbsp taco seasoning (for marinating)
  • 1.5 lb firm white fish fillet (such as cod or mahi mahi)
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt (for slaw)
  • 1 tbsp mayonnaise (optional, for slaw)
  • 1 tbsp honey (for slaw)
  • Zest and juice from 1 lime (for slaw)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (for slaw)
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper (for slaw)
  • 1/4 tsp ground cumin (for slaw)
  • 3 cups shredded white cabbage (for slaw)
  • 1 shredded carrot (for slaw)
  • 8 white corn tortillas (for assembling)
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped (for assembling)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (to brush grill grates)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the fish by whisking together 1 tbsp olive oil, juice of 1 lime, garlic, and taco seasoning in a large bowl. Add fish fillets, toss to coat, cover, and let marinate for 20-30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the cabbage slaw by whisking together Greek yogurt, mayonnaise (if using), honey, lime zest and juice, salt, pepper, and ground cumin in a separate bowl. Add shredded cabbage and carrot, toss to coat, and let sit for a few minutes.
  3. Warm the corn tortillas on a preheated grill for about 30 seconds on each side until pliable. Wrap in a clean kitchen towel to keep warm.
  4. Grill the marinated fish over medium-high heat for 3-5 minutes per side until cooked through, then flake into large pieces.
  5. Assemble the tacos by placing coleslaw on each tortilla, topping with flaked grilled fish, and finishing with chopped cilantro. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Fish can be any firm white fillet like cod or mahi mahi.
  • Letting the slaw sit for a few minutes helps flavors meld and softens the cabbage slightly.
  • Squeezing fresh lime over the warm fish enhances the flavor.
