Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish or two 8-inch round pans.
  2. In a large bowl, prepare the cake mix according to package instructions by combining cake mix, water, oil, and eggs. Mix until smooth.
  3. Divide the batter evenly into three bowls. Tint one bowl red, one blue, and leave one plain.
  4. Drop spoonfuls of each colored batter randomly into the prepared pan.
  5. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the colors together, creating a marble effect. Do not overmix.
  6. Bake for 28–32 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cake cool completely before frosting with vanilla frosting.
  8. Decorate with red, white, and blue sprinkles if desired. Slice and serve.
